In September 1948 the trustees of the Chapel
decided to buy the land and two cottages to the left of the Chapel
that is now the car park and hall.
A letter dated 17th Sept. 1948 from the Methodist Church District Chapel Committee
to Rev. M.H. Giddings of Brigg read "the trustees would be wise in purchasing
this adjoining property' also in the letter "the largest loan the committee
could give was £300." The cost was to be £500. Mr. Carter had given £50 towards
the cost and the Congregation managed to raise £150. So
the Chapel borrowed the £300 interest free from the district committee paying
back £30 per year in two £15 Installment. In a letter to the Chapel solicitors
Hett, Davy and Stubbs dated 27th Oct. 1949 from the Rev. Giddings to A.A.F.
Stubbs he wrote. "I enclose a cheque to the value of £461.5s.9d.. 2; The Trustees
will be very glad if you will continue to collect the rentals of the property
and render an account half yearly to Miss. Spencer our trustees treasurer".
The rent was £1.13s.l Id per month per cottage and the water rate was £1.5s.0d.;
The last tenant of May 1970 was a Mr. Frankish, who went missing after taking
a walk and was never found. The cottages were demolished soon after and is
now the church car park.
