RiRichard Abey was born in the village, a Primitive Methodist itinerant for a few years in the early days of the movement. In the churchyard there is a gravestone in memory of Rev. John Pearson a very zealous and useful Minister in the Wesleyan Connexion, who died the day after preaching in the village, 16th September 1823.
