Methodist Circuit
Circuit Policy 2005 to 2009

Our policy statement must never be regarded as a substitute for us taking
the action.

“Our resource is the Gospel and our aim is simple:-
to secure a caring, proclaiming, celebrating, worshipping and growing Christian presence in each community”

ACTION

The exercising of the ministry of the
whole people of God to deliver the Methodist Connexional and District Mission Priorities.

MISSION

+ Working in the ecumenical partnership we will provide training to individuals and churches, which will give the skills to bring people into God’s Kingdom.
+ The circuit will look to foster new areas of Christian worship and fellowship to encompass people who find traditional worship difficult.
+ In particular the circuit’s mission will focus on
+ Work with the youth and the under 40’s.
+ Work among the recently retired.
+ Evangelism: sharing the Good News and making more disciples of Jesus.
+ Community development and action for justice.
+ Developing patterns of effective Christian presence.
+ The circuit will encourage each individual to be trained appropriately to use their gifts / talents to the best of their ability.
+ The circuit will continue to be responsive to the needs of the wider world community.

ECUMENICAL

+ The circuit will work together with other Christians to develop a Christian presence in each community.
+ The circuit will continue to develop closer links with the Yarborough Deanery.
+ Churches within the circuit will be encouraged to look for ways to forge closer working links with their local Anglican church
+ The circuit and Deanery will continue to work together in decision making to bring communities together.
+ The circuit and Deanery will look for new and innovative ways to bring the Anglican and Methodist members closer together in worship and fellowship.

CIRCUIT

+ The circuit leadership team will work together to offer leadership and oversight within the circuit.
+ Churches within the circuit will be encouraged to take on more responsibility for their internal organisation and active pastoral care giving ordained ministers more time to focus on mission and wider circuit matters.
+ Bearing in mind the large geographical area covered by the circuit we will seek ways to develop links and relationships between the congregations.
+ Local churches will be encouraged to use their property as a resource for outreach in the community.

WORSHIP

+ The circuit encourages congregations to be responsive to new forms of worship.
+ We continue to develop through collaborative ministry within worship the exchange of ministers between the Anglican and Methodist Churches and will continue to look for further ways by which this can be extended.
+ The circuit will continue to support its ministers, local preachers, lay worker and worship leaders in their continuing development in leading worship.

COMMUNITY

+ All within the circuit are called by God to share His Love. The circuit will identify and recognise each individual’s gifts and encourage them to be used within the community.
+ The circuit will continue to look for new ways to reach out to the children and youth within the communities to give them the knowledge of God’s love and grace. It will provide safe facilities.
+ The circuit acknowledges the spiritual needs of the older people within the community and will continue to look for ways to support them.

INDIVIDUALS

+ The circuit will continue to develop the deepening spirituality of all those who are linked with the various worshipping communities by prayer, bible study, worship and pastoral care.
+ The circuit will encourage each individual in the outworking of their faith in their daily lives.
+ The circuit will provide pastoral care for everyone through the use of trained carers

Through this policy we will endeavour to fulfil the commissioning of Jesus to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, by each person’s individual witness in word and deed to the reality of the Kingdom of God in today’s world.

PRAYER

Father, we seek the guidance of your Holy Spirit in all the business before us.
In planning for the future, give us vision.
In matters of finance, give us responsibility.
In dealing with people, give us love.
Help us in all things to honour your name, to advance your kingdom, and to carry out your will.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
AMEN
