Golden Jubilee
THE ROSPER ROAD MISSION in the Barton-on-Humber Methodist Circuit was
built largely through the generosity of the people in the circuit and
the enthusiasm of the Rev. J. A. Turner. The cost of building was £1375
15s. 3d• and all but £89 had been subscribed by the opening
in 1910.
Trees were planted on the lawn in 1911 and by this effort the outstanding
balance was cleared.
In the early days it was necessary for the Preacher to travel by horse
and trap and a stable was included in the original building to accommodate
his horse.
The Vestry was added in 1923 at a cost of £181 and to help raise
this sum, £135 Sunday School Scholars and Friends each made a donation,
which was recorded by cutting their initials on a brick. These bricks
can be seen on the outside end of the Vestry wall.
The People's Hymnary was used at all Services until 1936 when to celebrate
the "Silver Jubilee " the new Methodist Hymn Book was introduced.
Since 1920, twenty-six marriages have been solemnized and there have
been two hundred and forty Baptisms,
